Field Hockey Ranked 11th In First Poll Of Season

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State field hockey team is ranked 11th in the first edition of the STX/NFHCA Division I National Coaches Poll, released Tuesday. It is the first appearance in the national rankings for MSU since the 1997 season.
The Big Ten boasts more ranked teams than any other conference in the nation, with five of six teams included in the top 20. Penn State (No. 1), Ohio State (No. 7), Iowa (No. 10) and Michigan (No. 12) join the Spartans in the poll.
Michigan State is 4-1 on the season and begins a five-game homestand this weekend. The Spartans face Central Michigan Friday, Sept. 17 at 4 p.m., then return the following afternoon, Sept. 18, to take on Providence at 1 p.m. Both games are at Spartan Stadium.
