MSU Field Hockey Players Earn All-Big Ten Honors

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Fellow sophomores and Netherlands natives Marleen Tuip (Eindhoven, Netherlands) and Sanne van Nouhuys (Bilthoven, Netherlands) were named to the 1999 All-Big Ten field hockey first team Thursday evening at the conference awards banquet.
van Nouhuys, who earned second-team honors in 1998, led the Spartans in scoring in 1999 with a team-high 12 goals, four assists and 28 points. She finished eighth in the conference in overall scoring, recording a pair of three-game goal-scoring streaks and four multiple-goal games despite a mid-season knee injury.
Tuip, who also was a second-team selection after leading MSU in scoring in 1998, finished second on the team in points in 1999. Her nine assists led all Spartans, while she added nine goals for 27 points. Tuip also notched a pair of hat tricks this season en route to finishing 10th in the Big Ten in overall scoring.
Fifth-seeded Michigan State faces fourth-seeded Ohio State in the opening game of the Big Ten Tournament today at 11:30 a.m. in Columbus, Ohio. The winner of the game will take on No. 1 seed and defending tournament champion Penn State in the second round. The winner of the tournament will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Championship.
