Field Hockey Falls In First Round Of Big Ten Tournament

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The fifth-seeded Michigan State field hockey team lost, 1-0, in overtime to fourth-seeded Ohio State this afternoon in the first round of the Big Ten Tournament in Columbus, Ohio. With the loss, MSU finishes the season 9-11 overall, 2-9 in the Big Ten, while Ohio State improves to 12-6, 5-6.
The teams played a defensive contest, with the game remaining scoreless through regulation. Each team recorded one shot on goal in the overtime period, but Kimberly Reedy?s goal on a scramble in front of the net with 5:27 remaining in overtime provided the winning margin for Ohio State. The Buckeyes advance to play No. 1 seed Iowa tomorrow morning.
The Spartans held an 11-5 edge in penalty corners, while freshman goalkeeper Mireille Evans (Castlegar, B.C.) stopped five shots and sophomore Marleen Tuip (Eindhoven, Netherlands) tallied five shots on goal for MSU.
