Two MSU Field Hockey Players Named Regional All-America

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State sophomores Marleen Tuip (Eindhoven, Netherlands) and Sanne van Nouhuys (Bilthoven, Netherlands) were named West Region All-Americans by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association this week. Tuip and van Nouhuys become the ninth and 10th Spartans to earn Regional All-America recognition.
Tuip was selected to the West Region first team after finishing 11th in the Big Ten in overall scoring with nine goals and nine assists for 27 points, while her nine points (4 goals, 1 assist) in conference play tied her for 13th. Tuip was also a first team All-Big Ten member this season, and was named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week on Oct. 12 after tallying three goals and an assist against Northwestern. She also netted a hat trick against Central Michigan this season.
van Nouhuys earned a second team Regional All-America berth after leading Michigan State in scoring with 12 goals and four assists for 28 points, good for 10th in the Big Ten in overall scoring. Her two goals and four assists (eight points) in conference play ranked her 15th in the Big Ten. van Nouhuys was also a first team All-Big Ten selection, and recorded a pair of three game goal-scoring streaks and four multiple-goal games in 1999.
