Robyn Fralick enters her third season as Head Women’s Basketball Coach at Michigan State, bringing a proven track record of success and deep Michigan roots as an Okemos native. Over her 10-year head coaching career, Fralick holds an impressive overall record of 236–95 (.713) and is a two-time National Coach of the Year honoree.
Since her arrival in East Lansing on March 31, 2023, Fralick has quickly made history. She became the sixth head coach in program history and the first to lead the Spartans to an NCAA Tournament berth in her debut season. That 2023–24 campaign saw Michigan State post its highest single-season win total (22) and Big Ten Conference win total (12) in eight years, finishing fourth in the conference standings, a significant leap from six consecutive seasons outside the top seven.
During the 2024–25 season, the Spartans again finished with 22-10 record and a 11-7 mark in the Big Ten, including multiple wins over ranked opponents. The team earned its second-straight NCAA Tournament berth, highlighted by the program’s first NCAA Tournament win in six seasons.
Under Fralick’s leadership, Michigan State’s scoring offense ranked sixth nationally in 2023–24 and 18th in 2024–25, while six players earned Big Ten All-Conference honors, including one Sixth Player of the Year.
Prior to returning home to Michigan, Fralick spent five seasons as head coach at Bowling Green State University (2018–2024), where she led the Falcons to an 88–73 (.547) record and three postseason appearances. She inherited a program that had gone 38–81 (.319) over the four seasons prior to her arrival and completely transformed it. In 2020–21, she was named MAC Coach of the Year after guiding BGSU to a MAC Regular Season Championship and one of the nation’s top turnarounds. Her final season in 2022–23 saw the Falcons tie the program record for wins (31) and reach the WNIT Fab Four. Her teams consistently ranked among the nation’s best in scoring, including 21st nationally in 2022–23, and she recruited and coached 15 MAC All-Conference selections, one Defensive Player of the Year, and one Freshman of the Year.
In 2018, Fralick received the prestigious C. Vivian Stringer Coaching Award, honoring her outstanding achievement and character-building leadership in women’s sports.
Fralick’s coaching journey began with a historic run at Ashland University (2015–2018), where she posted a staggering 104–3 (.972) record, the highest winning percentage in NCAA history (minimum 100 games). She led Ashland to three-straight GLIAC regular season and Tournament Championships, three NCAA Tournament berths, and the 2016–17 NCAA Division II National Championship. Her teams set a Division II record with 73 consecutive wins, and she was named WBCA Division II National Coach of the Year in both 2016–17 and 2017–18. Ashland’s offense ranked 1st nationally in 2017–18, 2nd in 2016–17, and 22nd in 2015–16. She recruited and developed 22 GLIAC All-Conference selections, seven All-Americans, two GLIAC Players of the Year, and one GLIAC Freshman of the Year.
Before taking over the Ashland program, Fralick spent seven seasons as an assistant coach (2008–2015), helping the program to six winning seasons, two GLIAC titles, and three NCAA Tournament appearances – including the 2012–13 NCAA Division II National Championship. Her earlier coaching stops include the University of Toledo (2007–08), Western Michigan University (2005–07), and Appalachian State University (2004–05).
A 2004 graduate of Davidson College, Fralick earned her degree in psychology with a minor in religion. She finished her career ranked among the program’s all-time leaders in assists (4th), steals (8th), and free-throw percentage (12th). She later earned her master’s degree in counselor education from Western Michigan in 2007.
A standout multi-sport athlete at Okemos High School, Fralick (Flewelling) earned second-team all-state honors in basketball and was named to the All-Michigan Fifth Team as a senior. She also earned all-league recognition in soccer and honorable mention in softball. She was inducted into the Okemos High School Hall of Fame in 2017.
Robyn and her husband, Tim, have two children, Will and Clara.
