Finished with 35 strikeouts, ranking sixth on the team ... Made a smashing collegiate debut, striking out seven in his debut start at UNLV in 5.0 IP, yielding just two four hits and two runs ... Earned Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors on March 9 for his performance on March 6 against nationally-ranked West Virginia, firing 5.0 IP with four strikeouts, allowing just three hits and one earned run in stymieing the WVU bats to improve to 2-0 on the young season ... Allowed a leadoff single and later a hit batter in the first inning, settling in and retiring seven Mountaineers.
HIGH SCHOOL: A four-year letterwinner at Woodhaven High School for head coach Corey Farner ... Earned D1 First-Team All-State accolades and was named to the All-News-Herald Dream Team ... Posted a 4-0 mark with 64 Ks yielding just one run, four walks and six hits in 26 IP, before an injury stymied his pitching season, but registered a .424 average with 11 doubles, one triple and four home runs, with 29 RBI, 35 runs scored, 14 walks and seven stolen bases, while playing both first base and outfield, not making an error ... Earned All-League and All-District honors as a sophomore, after helping lead Warriors to a 35-4 mark in 2019, after a 34-6 mark during freshman season, winning District and Regional crowns, advancing to Division I State Championship game at McLane Stadium at Kobs Field, falling in the championship game ... Was a three-year captain on the baseball team ... PERSONAL: Son of Jodi and Matt Szczepaniak ... Oldest brother, Jon, played hockey and baseball, while older brother, Drew, is a redshirt-junior pitcher on the Western Michigan baseball team ... Uncle, Kerin Jenkins, was drafted out of high school by the Seattle Mariners in 1991 and his grandfather played football at Northern Michigan in the 1960s ... Majoring in business at MSU ... Has future ambitions of helping lead MSU to a College World Series Championship, while completing his degree before playing in the MLB ... Lists older brother, Drew, as biggest baseball influence because he pushed him to be the best he could and was great example to work hard to achieve goals ...
