EAST LANSING, Mich. – Four Michigan State track & field athletes head to historic Hayward Field for the 2026 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships held on June 10-13 in Eugene, Oregon.
The men will be in action on Wednesday and Friday, while the women will take center stage on Thursday and Saturday.
HOW WE GOT HERE
Spartan thrower Xavier Griffiths will start things off for MSU at the NCAA Championships when he makes his NCAA Championship debut in the men's hammer throw finals, scheduled to start on Wednesday, June 10 at 5:30 p.m. ET. Griffiths spearheaded the men's hammer throw for the Green & White and eclipsed his personal-best throws on three different occasions, most recently at the NCAA East First Round action in Lexington, Kentucky where his farthest throw of 65.99m is now the second farthest throw in school history. Griffiths compiled three podium finishes in the events in the 2026 regular season and looks to add a fourth to his totals in Eugene this weekend.
The Morlock brothers, Colby and Dillon, will be making their first appearances at the NCAA Championships to compete in the men's shot put finals, beginning on Wednesday, June 10 at 10:10 p.m. ET. The brotherly duo anchored the Spartans in the men's shot put during the regular season, both securing 1-2 finishes in the men's shot put on three separate occasions, to go along with five podium finishes as a duo this season. At the NCAA East First Round action in Lexington, Colby finished 11th with a throw of 18.77m, and Dillon finished one spot behind in 12th with a throw of 18.73m, which was good enough for both to qualify for the NCAA Championships. Dillon and Colby hope to bring their stellar seasons over to Eugene for the 2026 NCAA Championships and add another Spartan podium finish to the record books.
For the second year in a row, Kate Stewart-Barnett will compete in the women's 3000m steeplechase semifinals on Thursday, June 11 at 8:38 p.m. ET. If Stewart-Barnett advances, she will compete in the finals on Saturday, June 13 at 8:24p.m. ET. At last year's NCAA Championships, Stewart-Barnett set a school-record time of 9:33.21 and a sixth-place finish in the event. She qualified for the women's 3000m steeplechase for the second consecutive year after finishing fourth in the event at the NCAA First Round action in Lexington with a season-best time of 9:40.41. The distance runner also claimed her third career (second consecutive) Big Ten Steeplechase title in Lincoln at the 2026 Outdoor Big Ten Championships. Stewart-Barnett enters the NCAA Championship coming off setting season-best times in the event in her previous two meets and looks to carry the momentum over to Eugene with her.
