Three Spartan Men in Action Friday at NCAA East First Round

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Michigan State track & field continued action with three men in action on the third day of the NCAA East First Round on Friday in Lexington, Kentucky.
Michigan State started the day with the discus throw, featuring Dalton DeBeau. He fouled his first two attempts before throwing 54.89m on his final attempt. DeBeau went on to finish 21st.
In the high jump, Brady Schultz was 23rd with a jump of 2.11m, which he cleared on his second try. It took three attempts for him to clear the opening height of 2.06m.
In his first NCAA East First Round, Thomas Westphal ran a strong race in the 5000m with a time of 14:13.03. He finished 13th in his heat and 29th overall. The Big Ten Cross Country Freshman of the Year hung with the lead pack for over 3000m, before fading at the end of the race.
Andrew Nolan was set to compete in the 3000m steeplechase but was a late scratch.
The four-day meet will conclude on Saturday. The Spartans will have two athletes in action on Saturday. Big Ten Champion Kate Stewart-Barnett and Sophia Lucki will open their postseason with the quarterfinals of the 3000m steeplechase at 5:10 p.m. Stewart-Barnett finished sixth in the NCAA Final last season with a school-record time of 9:33.21.
