Pair Of Spartan Men’s Tennis Players Tabbed To Big Ten All-Tournament Team

Forbes and Baris were named to the All-Tournament Team; Forbes garners Most Outstanding Player honors.
EAST LANSING, Mich. – Michigan State men's tennis had two student-athletes earn All-Tournament honors following their performance at the Big Ten Tournament this past weekend, April 22-25, in Ojai, Calif., in helping the Spartans win their first B1G Tournament title since 1967.
Senior Ozan Baris and sophomore Matthew Forbes were both named to the All-Tournament team. Forbes also collected the tournament's Most Outstanding Player award.
Baris and Forbes were partnered for doubles action throughout the tournament. The duo went 3-0 in doubles matches on the weekend, dominating the competition at No. 1 doubles.
In singles competition, Baris went 3-0 on the weekend, including taking down ranked opponents from UCLA and Ohio State. Baris started the weekend's win collection with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Indiana's Michael Andre. He then defeated UCLA's Emon van Loben Sels in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2. Ending the weekend on a high note, Baris defeated Ohio State's Preston Stearns 6-2, 6-4, a key victory in the Spartans' win.
Forbes also went 3-0 on the weekend, starting with a three-set victory over Indiana's Jip van Assendelft 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) before taking down UCLA's Rudy Quan 6-3, 6-4. In the championship match, Matthew Forbes defeated Ohio State's Jack Anthrop in a three-set match 6-2, 5-7, 7-6 (7-3), to clinch the victory for Michigan State in the final match, capping the nearly seven-hour marathon match with several rain delays.
MSU won the Big Ten's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament and find out their NCAA Regional opponent and location on the NCAA Selection Show, which is Monday, April 27, at 4 p.m. ET and will be streamed on NCAA.com. The Green & White will open Regionals action on Friday, May 1.
