Spartan men’s tennis aims to claim first win in Seattle
EAST LANSING, Mich. – No. 20 Michigan State men's tennis is set to travel to the Pacific Northwest this week for a pair of matches, opening in Seattle, Wash., to take on the Washington Huskies on Friday, April 3, at 8 p.m. ET / 5 p.m. PT.
With an overall record of 11-7 and a Big Ten Conference record of 8-0, the Green & White are quickly climbing the rankings, earning a team rank of No. 20 nationally. Along with its team rankings, MSU has two doubles pairings and three singles rankings. In total, the Spartans have six players appearing in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's weekly rankings.
The Spartans are coming off another weekend of back-to-back big wins in conference action. First, taking down No. 24 USC indoors at the MSU Indoor Tennis Center, then taking down UCLA in the first outdoor match of not only the 2026 season, but the first-ever match at the Spartan Tennis Outdoor Courts. Two Spartans, Matthew Forbes and Aristotelis Thanos, saved a total of five team match points against USC, with Thanos clinching the USC match, then doing the same against UCLA, earning Big Ten Co-Player of the Week Award.
Throughout the spring season, the Spartans have remained victorious over multiple ranked opponents. Most of their success has come from taking the doubles point to gain an early lead. Michigan State has proven to be a top competitor across both doubles and singles action, with multiple athletes earning comeback wins over highly ranked opponents.
