On major keys at half time...
Well, some toughness, some competitiveness. We've played so many games. That's our 29th game this season, and we just can't be so easily discouraged. I see us get discouraged over things that happen in a game. And all of a sudden when you're discouraged, it's so hard to play the game the right way. It's so hard to connect with your teammates. The best players, the best teams, they're not easily discouraged. They have a belief, they stick together, and you have to adjust. We can't keep giving up rebounds, can't keep attacking and not passing the ball. When these things are happening, we have to be able to adjust so we can get momentum back on our side.
On how OSU was scoring today...
So frustrating, so deflating to do so many things right, and then give up a three. And we did that a lot. It's hard to come back from that because we had done a lot of things right, and then to give up a three. They shot the ball really well tonight. Coming in, how they win is forcing turnovers and attacking the paint and they shot the crap out of the ball tonight. We got to do a better job defensively.
On how tough games prepare the team for the postseason…
Well, we're going to see people again. There's stuff that you have to do and there's stuff you can't do, and we're going to see it again. So am I disappointed by this tonight? Yes. There are three parts to a season: non-conference, conference season and then postseason. So it's kind of like, all right, check, check. Now we're in the third part. Our response needs to be changed and learning from this because everyone we play, the margin is going to be small.
On junior Rashunda Jones returning and providing a spark…
Yeah, it's great to have her back. I thought she shot the ball well. She's just such an impact player for us on both sides of the ball. So it's great to have her back, especially heading into the postseason.
On facing tougher Big Ten opponents…
Yeah, the margin's small. Finishing plays and multiple efforts and moving the ball — if you don't do those things, the game gets exposed quickly and the margin gets exposed quickly. So yeah, we've got to do a better job of that.
On what made Ohio State Jaloni Cambridge effective…
I think arguably you could say she's the best point guard in the country. She's really hard to contain. She's a dynamic mix of being able to score and create for her teammates. She constantly is putting pressure on your team. She's constantly creating rotations and help. She's just a really, really good basketball player.
On the team's body of work heading into the postseason and what that looks like to the selection committee…
I think our league tests you and challenges you every night. I think we've had an incredible body of work. We've won a lot of games in a really good league. We had some good non-conference wins. I think this league also makes you ready for postseason because you see all the best teams and you see all different kinds of styles. Our team's doing things that haven't been done here in a long time. Our body of work over the course of the season, we're proud of. Tonight we're frustrated by the outcome. But if we can zoom out a little bit, our team's shown to be competitive at the highest level.
