Three Among the Top 20 as Michigan State is Tied for Sixth Place at the Puerto Rico Classic

East Lansing, Mich. – Michigan State's women's golf team shot a 9-under par 567 through two rounds and is tied for sixth place among 18 teams after the first day of play at the Puerto Rico Classic, being played at the Grande Reserve Golf Club (par 72, 6,305 yards) in Rio Grande.
The three-day, 54-hole tournament was originally slated for 18 holes each day but was moved to 36 holes on Sunday due to inclement weather expected in the area on Monday.
The Spartans posted scores of 5-under par 283 and 4-under par 284 to finish at 9-under par 567 through two rounds.
Arkansas leads the field at 22-under par 554 (279-725), while North Carolina is in second place at 21-under par 555 (276-279), LSU is third at 14-under par 562 (283-279), Northwestern is fourth at 11-under par 565 (281-284) and Ole Miss stands in fifth place at 10-under par 566 (285-281). The Spartans are tied for sixth place with Kansas State.
Sophomore Grace Vetter leads the Spartans at 4-under par 140 (69-71) and is in 12th place. Vetter posted back-to-back under par rounds, with scores of 3-under par 69 and 1-under par 71.
Seniors Taylor Kehoe and Paula Balanzategui are tied for 19th place with scores of 3-under par 141. Both golfers posted back-to-back under par scores to start the tournament. Kehoe posted a 2-under par in the opening 18 and closed with a 1-under par 71, while Balanzategui went 2-under par in round one and closed at 1-under par 71.
Senior Shannon Kennedy is tied for 64th place at 3-over par 147 (76-71) and junior Ana Sofia Murcia is tied for 72nd place at 4-over par 148 (74-74).
Playing as an individual, freshman Memee Pojanalai is tied for 57th place at 2-over par 146 (75-71).
Michigan State tees off in the final round at 7:30 a.m. (ET), playing alongside Ole Miss, Kansas State and Vanderbilt.
