Women’s Golf Completes First Round at the Folds of Honor Collegiate

East Lansing, Mich. – Junior Ana Sofia Murcia is tied for seventh place and Michigan State's women's golf team is in eighth place among 12 teams after the first round of play at the Folds of Honor Collegiate at American Dunes Golf Club (par 72, 6,206 yards) in Grand Haven, Mich.
This is the second annual Folds of Honor Collegiate for the women's side. The tournament supports the Folds of Honor non-profit organization that provides educational scholarships to the spouses and children of US military service members and first responders who have fallen or been disabled while serving our country and communities.
Michigan State shot a 15-over par 303 and is in eight place in the 12-team field, but just six shots away from the top-5.
Baylor shot a 4-over par 292 and leads the field, with Texas A&M second at 5-over par 293, North Carolina and Kentucky are tied for third place at 7-over par 295 and Kansas rounds out the top-five teams at 9-over par 297.
Starting on the back nine, Murcia was 1-under par through nine holes with a pair of birdies and finished her day tied for seventh place at 1-over par 73.
The Spartans had two players among the top-20, with freshman Sarisa "Memee" Pojanalai tied for 19th place at 3-over par 75, finishing her round with four birdies.
Sophomore Catalina Monroy shot a 4-over par 76, including two birdies and 11 pars, and is tied for 31st place.
Senior Paula Balanzategui is tied for 45th place at 7-over par 79 and classmate Taylor Kehoe is tied for 47th place at 8-over par 80.
Michigan State tees off on Tuesday at 1:23 p.m. from the 1st hole, playing alongside Texas A&M and Kentucky.
The three-day, 54-hole tournament is being broadcast live on Golf Channel. Daily coverage of the tournament will be air from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and then from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The Golf Central show airs from 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday.
