Volleyball Travels to Western Michigan Monday

KALAMAZOO, Mich. -Â Michigan State volleyball (4-0, 0-0 B1G) continues its five-match road stretch on Monday, Sept. 8, facing Western Michigan (1-5, 0-0 MAC) inside WMU's University Arena at 6 p.m.
Monday's match will stream on ESPN+. Fans can tune into John Kreger's call of the action on MSUSpartans.com or via the Michigan State Athletics app for the match.
MSU went 2-0 in Evansville, Indiana, last week, defeating Evansville on Sept. 3, 3-1, before sweeping Southern Indiana on Sept. 4. MSU is hitting .302 through its first four matches of the season while holding its opponents to just .050 hitting, including a season-low .011 at Southern Indiana. The Spartans have dropped only one set through their first four matches in 2025, marking MSU's fewest sets lost through its first four matches since the 2016 season.
Outside hitter Taylah Holdem totaled 27 kills on .281 hitting over MSU's two matches in Evansville to average a team-leading 3.86 kills per set, including 16 kills against Evansville while adding a team-high nine digs. She also tied a career high in total blocks at Evansville with five. Overall, the junior is hitting .333 this season and has recorded double-digit kills in her last three matches.
Senior opposite Evie Doezema just missed a career high in kills (16) against Evansville with 15, while redshirt sophomore libero Sarah Vellucci tallied a career-high 13 digs against the Purple Aces. Junior middle blocker Zuzanna Kulig tallied a season-high seven blocks at Evansville.Â
Redshirt freshman Malayah Long became MSU's first player to record a double-double this season against Southern Indiana, dishing out 29 assists and a team and career-high 12 digs. She also recorded four service aces.
ABOUT WESTERN MICHIGANÂ Â
The Spartans are 23-10-1 all-time against the Broncos and hold a slight 5-4 advantage on the road. The two teams last met in a 3-0 Western Michigan win on Sept. 11 last season in East Lansing. The Broncos are the second of two (Chicago State) 2024 NCAA Tournament participants that MSU will face in the non-conference portion of its schedule and the second of 11 opponents overall.
Western Michigan is 1-5 overall this season and most recently dropped contests to Northern Kentucky, SEMO and Indiana at the Indiana Invitational last week.
Head coach Colleen Munson is in her 21st season at Western Michigan.
