Spartans Fire Best Team Score in Second Round, in Third Place at the Windy City Classic

East Lansing, Mich. – Michigan State's women's golf team fired a 7-under par 281 in the afternoon round and are in third place among 11 teams entering the final round of play at the Windy City Classic, being played at the Glen View Golf Club in Golf, Ill.
The two-day, 54-hole tournament finishes on Tuesday, Sept. 30 with 18 holes.
The Spartans tee off at 9:24 a.m., playing alongside Southern Methodist and Northwestern.
Michigan State opened the morning round with an even-par 288 before going low in the afternoon, tying with Iowa State for low score of the second round. The Spartans are in third place at 7-under par 569.
Host Northwestern leads the field at 13-under par 278, with SMU second at 11-under par 565 and the Spartans are in third, just six shots off the lead. Duke (6-under par 570) and UCLA (3-under par 573) round out the top-five teams.
Junior Ana Sofia Murcia fired a 4-under par 68 in the opening round, tied for the lowest round of her career. She is the leader for Michigan State, tied for third place at 5-under par 139 (68-71).
The Spartans have two others among the top-25, with sophomore Grace Vetter and freshman Lucia Valderrama tied for 23rd place at 1-over par 145. Both golfers opened with scores of 4-over par 76 before coming back in the afternoon to post rounds of 3-under par 69, respectively.
Senior Paula Balanzategui is tied for 28th place at 2-over par 146 (74-72) and classmate Taylor Kehoe is tied for 40th place at 6-over par 148 (70-78).
