Michigan State Women’s Golf in 20th Place After Second Day of Play at the NCAA Championships

East Lansing, Mich. – Michigan State's women's golf team shot a 15-over par 303 in the second round and is in 20th place after the second day of stroke play at the NCAA Championship, being played at the Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, Calif.
The 30-team field, playing on the par 72, 6,330-yard course at the Omni La Costa Resort & Spa, is cut to 15 teams after Sunday's third round of stroke play.
Top-ranked Stanford fired a 10-under par 278 on Saturday and vaulted into the team lead at 5-under par 571 (293-278). Northwestern is in second place at even-par 576, followed by Oregon in third place (1-over par 577), with Southern California and Florida State tied for fourth place at 3-over par 579.
Florida is in 15th place at 13-over par 589 (288-301) and the Spartans are in 20th place at 21-over par 597 (294-303).
After starting the first round on Friday among the early groups, Michigan State teed off around noon PT (2:50 p.m. ET) in Saturday's second round.
Junior Paula Balanzategui carded the low team round of the day with a 1-over par 73. She leads the Spartans at 4-over par 148 (75-73) and is tied for 53rd place.
Junior Taylor Kehoe is tied for 67th place at 5-over par 149 (74-75), posting a 3-over par 75 on Saturday.
Senior Katie Lu shot an even-par 72 in the first round to lead MSU (and was tied for 27th place), but finished at 6-over par 78 on Saturday and is tied for 80th place at 6-over par 150 (72-78).
Sophomore Ana Sofia Murcia is tied for 93rd place at 7-over par 151 (73-78) after a 6-over par 78 in the second round.
Senior Brooke Biermann shot a 5-over par 77 on Saturday and is tied for 103rd place at 8-over par 152 (75-77)
Michigan State finished in third place at the NCAA Norman Regional in early May to reach the NCAA Championships for the fourth time in the last five years and the 17th time in program history, including 15 appearances under Head Coach Stacy Slobodnik-Stoll.
The NCAA Championships continue on Sunday, May 18 for the third round of stroke play. The 30-team field will play three rounds of stroke play before the field is cut to 15 teams. Following the final round of stroke play on Monday, May 19, the field is cut to eight teams for match play.
