
Two Crews Earn B1G Boat of the Week Honors

East Lansing, Mich. -- Two Michigan State crews have been named Big Ten Boats of the Week on Tuesday, April 8 after a clean sweep of dual racing at Ford Lake Park in Ypsilanti last weekend.Â

Michigan State's varsity eight had a second straight strong performance, posting an open-water victory over Eastern Michigan (6:36.6-7:00.1) on the Eagles' home course on Saturday morning. The margin for the Spartans was its largest over an opponent this season, after MSU just missed a podium finish last weekend at the Sunshine State Invitational by half a length.   The varsity eight lineup was B- Kaleigh Yunker, 2-Jillian Cox, 3-Maddie Kieft, 4-Freya Engel, 5-Alice Bradley, 6-Sabrina Gottschalk, 7-Ella McKenzie, S- Ugne Rudaityte and coxswain Samantha Thoma

Meanwhile, MSU's novice eight/3V8 started off the day strong for the Green & White with an  posted an open-water victory . MSU was 20 seconds ahead of its own second novice eight (7:14.9 -  7:35.5) and was  35 seconds ahead of the Eagles (7:49.6). The novice boat consisted of B- Julia Griese, 2- Ava Getzloff, 3- Ava Buchholz, 4- Paige Sorensen; 5- Braeden Tokar, 6- Mya Bretzke; 7- Hayden Rapaport, , S- Kaari Peecher, and cox Haley Barabas.

The Spartans next compete on April 18-19 in Sarasota at the Big Ten Invitational at Nathan Benderson Park in Sarasota.Â
