
No. 31 Michigan State Men's Tennis Hosting Home Action for Second Consecutive Weekend

Spartans aim to revive their winning streak in back-to-back home matches.
EAST LANSING, Mich. – Michigan State men's tennis looks to capitalize on its home court advantage as the Spartans host No. 66 Northwestern on Friday, April 4, at 5 p.m. and No. 24 Illinois on Sunday, April 6, at Noon. Both matches are being held at the MSU Indoor Tennis Center.
After splitting their action last weekend, the Spartan men's tennis team now holds an overall record of 11-7 and 6-2 in B1G play.Â
Decorated Spartans
In this weekly ITA rankings, the Spartans found themselves at No. 31, moving up one spot from their previous ranking of 32 last week.Â
The Spartans have four players in this week's singles rankings. Junior Ozan Baris rounded out the top 10, coming in at No. 10 this week.Â
Redshirt-sophomore Aristotelis Thanos slid six spots from No. 22 to No. 28. Freshman Matthew Forbes is at No. 91, while senior Max Sheldon rounds out the Spatans in the top 100 at No. 93.Â
Last Outing
Michigan State fell to Ohio State, 3-4, snapping a four-match win streak and moving to 11-7 (6-2 B1G). Ohio State improved to 18-2 (7-0 B1G) and extended its winning streak to 11.
In doubles, Baris/Forbes (MSU) won 6-2, while Thanos/freshman Vuk Radjenovic (MSU) secured the doubles point with a 7-5 victory. The Sheldon brothers of senior Max Sheldon and freshman Mitchell Sheldon fell 6-4.
In singles, Ma. Sheldon and Thanos gave MSU a 3-0 lead with straight-set wins. Ohio State responded with victories from Jack Anthrop, Brandon Carpico, and Nikita Filin to tie it 3-3. The deciding match saw Aidan Kim edge Baris in a tight 6-3, 5-7, 7-6 (7-4) battle.
Scouting Northwestern
In its most recent match, Northwestern secured a 7-0 victory against Marquette, demonstrating their capability to deliver strong performances.
Despite the season's challenges, Northwestern's blend of seasoned players and emerging talent positions them as a team capable of competitive play in the Big Ten Conference.
The Wildcats are currently ranked No. 66 in ITA weekly team rankings.Â
Scouting Illinois
The Illinois men's tennis team has demonstrated strong performances in the 2024-25 season, holding an overall record of 12-6 and a conference record of 5-2. They are currently on a three-match winning streak, with a notable home record of 6-1.Â
In the ITA's team weekly rankings, Illinois was ranked at No. 24, moving down one spot from their previous ranking of 23.Â
The Illini have two players in singles rankings, junior Kenta Miyoshi comes in at No. 16, while redshirt junior William Mroz is ranked No. 64.Â
