Volleyball Heads to Pacific Northwest to Face Washington, Oregon

EAST LANSING, Mich. -Â Michigan State volleyball (16-6, 6-6 B1G) heads to the Pacific Northwest this week to take on Washington (10-12, 5-7 B1G) on Friday, Nov. 7 at 10 p.m. ET in Seattle before traveling to Oregon (13-9, 4-8 B1G) on Sunday, Nov. 9 at 4 p.m. ET.
Both matches this weekend will stream on B1G+. Fans can tune into John Kreger's call of the action on MSUSpartans.com or via the Michigan State Athletics app for Friday's match against Washington.
The Spartans went 1-1 in conference action at home last week, falling in five sets to then-No. 10 Purdue on after nearly pulling off a reverse sweep on Oct. 31 before sweeping Rutgers the following night. MSU hit .354 as a team against the Scarlet Knights, the second-best single-match hitting clip for the Spartans this season.
At 6-6 in conference action, MSU sits alone in 10th place in the league. Undefeated Nebraska ranks first, while Purdue (10-2) sits in second and Wisconsin and Indiana both hold a 9-3 record for third.
Freshman outside hitter Bianca Mumcular led the Spartans in total kills last week with 30, averaging 3.75 kills per set over MSU's two matches, including a career-high 19 kills on .295 hitting against Purdue. Sophomore middle blocker Carmen Waye posted 16 kills (29 attacks) on a .517 clip with just one error to record the fourth-best combined hitting percentage in the B1G across last week's matches.
Junior libero Lia Schneider tallied a team-high 33 digs last week and set a new season high with 25 against Purdue, topping her previous season high by nine digs. Her 25 digs are the fourth-most in a five-set match by a B1G player this season.
Schneider was one of three Spartans to post double-digit digs against the Boilermakers, joined by junior outside hitter Karolina Staniszewska with a career-high 19 and redshirt freshman setter Malayah Long (14). Long also recorded her team-high eighth double-double of the season against Purdue, providing 27 assists alongside her 14 digs. With her 19 digs against Purdue, Staniszewska set a career high in her fourth statistical category this season, having already set career highs in kills, service aces and total blocks in 2025.
Splitting time in a 6-2 system in both matches last week, Long and junior Cam Berger totaled 45 and 42 assists, respectively, over MSU's two matches.Â
About Washington
Washington is 10-12 overall and 5-7 in the conference this season. The Huskies went 1-1 last week, sweeping Oregon at home before falling in four sets to UCLA on the road.
Washington is 3-0 all-time against the Spartans, having last met in East Lansing in a 3-1 Husky victory on Oct. 20 last season in the teams' first-ever Big Ten matchup, and holds a 1-0 record in Seattle. The Spartans last visited Washington in Alaska Airlines Arena in the second round of the 2015 NCAA Tournament, falling in four sets. The only other matchup between the two schools came in a 3-0 Washington win in a neutral-site matchup in Wichita, Kansas, on Sept. 11, 2004.
Head coach Leslie Gabriel is in her third season leading the Huskies.
About Oregon
Oregon is 13-9 overall and 4-8 in the B1G in 2025. The Ducks have dropped their last three contests, most recently falling to Washington and Nebraska in sweeps on the road last week. Oregon will play UCLA in Eugene on Thursday this week before hosting the Spartans on Sunday.
The Ducks hold a 2-1 advantage in the all-time series and earned a 3-0 win in East Lansing on Nov. 21 last season. MSU's only match against the Ducks in Eugene came in a 3-1 loss on Sept. 13, 2014, while the Spartans' lone win in the series came in the first-ever matchup between the two schools on Sept. 6, 2013, in East Lansing in four sets.
