Field Hockey Falls to CMU In Season Finale

EAST LANSING, Mich. – Michigan State field hockey concluded its 2025 season on Sunday afternoon, falling to Central Michigan, 2-1, from Ralph Young Field.
 
MSU wraps up the 2025 season with a final record of 5-13 (1-7 B1G).
 
The Spartans out-shot CMU, 15-11 and held a 5-2 edge in penalty corner attempts. Central Michigan held a narrow 9-7 advantage in shots on goal.
 
Michigan State's offense was charged by senior forward Gracie Burns, sophomore midfielder Mora Cavazza and sophomore midfielder Lillan Knorr. The trio registered a combined seven shots, five of which on goal. Burns and Knorr each tallied two shots on goal, with Burns the lone goal scorer for MSU. Freshman forward Caroline Horace had an assist.
 
Central Michigan took an early 1-0 lead just 1:36 into the action on Sunday, but with 22 seconds remaining in the first half, MSU scored the equalizer. Horace passed the ball into the circle where Burns waited in front of the net to strike.
 
 
MSU came out of the halftime break with momentum, taking six shots and forcing the Chippewas to make four saves in the third quarter of action. The Spartans had a penalty corner opportunity early in the fourth at the 46:27 mark, but had a shot blocked and another go wide to come up empty. Pizano had a shot go high of the net with under nine minutes to play in regulation.
  
CMU gained possession in the 53rd minute and started to break down field. A long pass from Mallory Camryn found the stick of Cameron Pluciennik in the circle, scoring the eventual game-winning goal for Central Michigan.
