East Lansing, Mich. --Â Michigan State learned its NCAA Tournament fate on Monday afternoon and will begin its national tournament journey by hosting Horizon League champion Milwaukee (13-4-3) Â on Friday at 6 pm at DeMartin Stadium.Â
Â
The two teams met early in the regular season, with the Spartans earning a 9-0 victory over the Panthers on Aug. 24.
Â
The Spartans (12-3-6) have earned their highest NCAA Tournament seed in program history – they are a No. 2 seed in the tournament and will host the first three rounds on its home field. In addition to the Friday game against Milwaukee, the second and third round games are tentatively scheduled for Thursday Nov. 20 and Sunday Nov. 23 at DeMartin Stadium.
Â
Among the selection criteria deliberated by the Division I soccer committee, the Spartans are the highest-ranked Big Ten team in the RPI (6). MSU is currently 12-3-6 overall on the season and advanced to the Big Ten Tournament finals where it battled Washington through two overtimes to settle on a 1-1 draw. The Huskies captured the league's automatic bid and tournament trophy on a 4-1 win in penalty kicks.Â
Â
MSU brings a six-game unbeaten streak into the NCAA Tournament, and with the Sunday draw against Washington, that has set the school record for ties in a season (six). The previous record of five was set in 2005 and matched in 2024.Â
Â
Michigan State is making its eighth NCAA Tournament appearance and fourth consecutive. The Spartans have hosted at least one NCAA Tournament game in each of its last three seasons, and are 5-3 all-time under head coach Jeff Hosler, who will be guiding MSU to a fourth straight appearance during his tenure.   MSU advanced to the Round of 16 in both 2023 and 2024.   The victory over UCLA in the Big Ten semifinals was the 300th in Hosler's head coaching career, which now encapsulates 20 seasons as the head coach at Alma, Grand Valley State, and Michigan State. He is 67-17-20 in five seasons as the Spartan mentor. Â
