MSU Cross Country Prepares for the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational Friday

EAST LANSING, Mich. - After two weeks off, the Michigan State cross country teams return to action at the ultra-competitive Nutttycombe Wisconsin Invitational, hosted by the University of Wisconsin in Madison on Friday, Oct. 17.
The women's 6k "A" race will begin at 12:50 p.m. ET, while the men's 8k "A" race is set to start at 1:30 p.m. ET. The day begins with the women's 6k "B" race at 10:30 a.m., followed by the men's 8k "B" race at 11:10 a.m.
All races will be held on the Thomas Zimmer Championship Cross Country Course, which opened in 2009 and is located adjacent to University Ridge Golf Course in Madison.
On the women's side, 19 of the 31 teams attending the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational are ranked and six are within the top 10. The Spartans are ranked No. 24 in the USTFCCCA polls. On the men's side, 16 of the 32 teams competing are currently ranked. The MSU men are currently ranked No. 16.
Last time out at the Gans Creek Classic on Sept. 26, the Spartan men finished 10th in the 8k race with 334 points. The Spartans were led by Riley Hough, who finished eighth with a new personal-best time of 22:50.8. It was also the top time for an American. His previous personal best was 23:08.04 set at the Big Ten Championships in 2024. Moses Osterink crossed the line in 23:32.6 to finish 68th.
At the Gans Creek Classic, the MSU women also had a solid day finishing 13th with 402 points in a highly competitive field that included nine ranked teams. Florida took the women's title with 102 points. The Gators had finishers 7-8-9-10. For the second-straight meet, Rachel Forsyth led the way for the Spartans. She finished 28th with a time of 19.59.4. She had the third-best time of any Big Ten runners behind Oregon's Juliet Cherubet and Dalia Frias.
Following the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational, Michigan State selected members of the team will compete at the Eastern Michigan Invite on Oct. 24.
