East Lansing, Mich. - Michigan State dropped a 3-0 decision to in-state rival Michigan on Monday afternoon at Ralph Young Field.
Â
The No 9 Wolverines (6-1) got on the board first at the exact halfway point of the first quarter, as Eva Bernardy's restart was tipped by Abby Tamer inside the circle for her 8th goal of the season.  Bernardy doubled the Michigan lead with a goal of her own  at 22:22 on a corner play. The insert was crisp to Lora Clarke, who set up Bernardy for her first goal of her Michigan career to send the Wolverines into the halftime break with a 2-0 lead.Â
Â
Ashley Herbert made her Spartan debut in the second half, coming on in relief of Lyra Gavino in the Spartan goal cage. Just over seven minutes into her debut, she had to face a penalty shot  -  and Clarke buried it into the bottom right corner for a 3-0 lead.Â
Â
Michigan starter Hala Silverstein made two saves in the first 45 minutes before making way for senior Caylie McMahon in the fourth quarter. MSU had a flurry of corner attempts around the midpoint of the period and then Carmen Pucheta was awarded a penalty stroke for MSU with just over three minutes remaining, but McMahon came up with the save to keep MSU off the board.  McMahon finished with three saves in her 15 minutes of work.Â
The Spartans (4-4) are now idle until Sunday, when they travel to Ball State. Â
