BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – MSU Rowing returns to action Saturday for a duel against 16th-ranked Indiana in the 15th edition of the Dale England Cup on Bloomington, Indiana's Lake Lemon.
Live Results
It will be the Spartans' fourth race of the season under first-year head coach Stacey Rippetoe and second dual regatta of the season, also having raced against another ranked opponent in No. 9 Michigan on April 6.
The 15th annual Dale England Cup trophy will be hosted by the team that accumulates the most points on the day. In the first varsity eight, the winning boat receives 18 points and the second place finisher nine. In the second eight the winner gets 12 and second six. For the first varsity four, the first to finish the 2K earns six points and the second boat three. The higher placing crew in the V8+ serves as the tiebreaker if necessary.
Last time out, the seven Spartans boats' endurance was tested at the Big Ten Invite, racing the two kilometers three times in a weekend for the first time on April 19-20. Saturday only six boats will be featured, as the 3V4+ will not compete on the weekend.
It was Michigan State's second varsity four that for the third consecutive competition posted the top result, clinching first on Saturday by a second. The second novice eight also shined on the weekend, topping the competitors in Friday's afternoon session, also by a second, and concluding the weekend with a second-place finish on Saturday.
Seat changes include senior Carolynn Garner moving back into the first V8+, senior Lucy Botting moving up from the first varsity four to second varsity eight bow seat and senior Sara Hilburger getting her first shot of the season in the V4+.
