Michigan State Takes on Ball State and Oakland in a Saturday Doubleheader

EAST LANSING, Mich -- The No. 73-ranked Michigan State women's tennis team is back on its home courts at the MSU Indoor Tennis Facility on Saturday, March 9, in a doubleheader. The Spartans will take on Ball State first at 10 a.m. then will battle in-state rival Oakland at 2 p.m. to conclude the doubleheader.
SPARTANS RISING
Michigan State moved up two spots in the latest ITA rankings as it now sits as the No. 73-ranked women's tennis team in Division I. On an individual basis, the tandem of graduate Nicole Conard and senior Ayshe Can spiked up five spots, improving as the No. 38-ranked doubles team. The pairing has a 4-1 record through the season.
FOUR FOR FOUR
Freshman Ria Bhakta has made an instant impact to the women's tennis team to begin the season. A native of Delray Beach, Florida, Bhakta has been arguably one of the best players on the team as she leads the squad with 11 total victories. With a 5-2 doubles record, Bhakta has put up an impressive 6-1 overall record providing depth for the Spartans as she's a perfect 4-0 on court four and 2-1 on court five.
SCOUTING BALL STATE
Led by second year head coach Sachin Kirtane. Kirtane first season with the Cardinals that saw a 22-4 record and a MAC Championship. Ball State enters the week with a 2-8 overall record. In its last outing, the Cardinals fell to Butler in a close 4-3 matchup.
SERIES HISTORY VS. BALL STATE
This matchup marks the 21st all-time meeting between the programs. Michigan State leads the series 15-5. In its last outing, the Green and White left Muncie, Indiana, with a 7-0 sweep.
SCOUTING OAKLAND
The Golden Grizzlies are led by head coach David Brown. Sitting at 3-5 overall, Oakland are coming off a 7-0 shutout and are winners of two of their last three matches.
