No. 8 Spartans Conclude Regular Season at Illinois State Tri-Meet Saturday

NORMAL, Ill. -Â No. 8 Michigan State gymnastics (16-3, 9-0 B1G) travels to Normal, Illinois, on Saturday, March 16 for a tri-meet with host Illinois State (14-10) and Lindenwood (11-8) in the Spartans' final regular-season competition at 5 p.m. ET.
The meet will stream on ESPN+ with live scoring available at MSUSpartans.com.
NOTABLES
MSU enters Saturday's meet at a national qualifying score of 197.615, good for eighth in the NCAA for the fourth-straight week. In their last outing on March 9, the Spartans scored a 198.150 in a home quad meet against Central Michigan, Fisk and Greenville for their highest score of the season and second-best score of all-time. It was the second time MSU eclipsed the 198.000 team score mark in 2024, becoming one of seven teams in the NCAA to do so this season.
The Spartans' 197.615 is their highest NQS in program history.
In the team event rankings, MSU sits in the top 10 on vault (No. 5, 49.410 NQS), bars (No. 8, 49.415) and beam (No. 8, 49.385), while sitting in 11th on floor (49.515).
MSU swept the event titles in last week's quad, led by junior Skyla Schulte's beam (9.950), floor (9.975) and all-around (39.575) titles, while freshman MaKayla Tucker and sophomore Olivia Zsarmani (9.925) earned a share of the vault title and senior Delanie Harkness captured the bars title (9.950).
Schulte earned her third Big Ten Gymnast of the Week award of the season this week after her quad meet performance. Tucker collected her second Freshman of the Week honor and Harkness was named Event Specialist of the Week for the second time in her career.
THE MATCHUP
Illinois State ranks 39th in the current Road to Nationals rankings with an NQS of 195.835. The Redbirds set their season high last weekend against San Jose State, Boise State and Yale, scoring a 196.275. Lindenwood sits in 43rd in the Week 10 Road to Nationals standings, posting an NQS of 195.570. The Lions scored a program-high 197.075 on Jan. 19 this season.
MSU and Illinois State last met in a tri-meet with Bowling Green in East Lansing on Jan. 15, 2022. MSU won the meet with a 196.475, while ISU finished second with a 192.625. The Spartans will face Lindenwood for the first time in program history on Saturday.
Both teams are members of the Midwest Independent Conference (MIC).
