
Wrestling Begins Big Ten Season at No. 13 Michigan Sunday

EAST LANSING, Mich. – Michigan State enters the week with a 7-0 record for the third time in program history, as it travels to Ann Arbor to take on No. 13 Michigan for its first B1G dual this season on Sunday, Jan. 14 at 1 p.m. at the Crisler Center. The dual will be streamed on B1G+.

"There is no doubt that this is an important dual. We begin conference competition and there isn't a better way to start Big Ten action than to kick it off with your in-state rival. They have a very good team with many All-American and an NCAA Champion in their lineup. This will be a great test for our guys, and I know they are looking forward to the opportunity."
ON A "TEAR"
· Redshirt-freshman 285-pounder Josh Terrill is off to an electric start with a nation-leading 23 victories. The first-year starter has a perfect 6-0 record in dual matches.
· The Holt, Michigan, native is currently ranked No. 32 in the latest Flowrestling rankings.
ROAD TO 100
With his two major victories last weekend, No. 23-ranked 184-pound grad Layne Malczewski is only five wins away from tallying 100 career wins. Malczewski has a 95-42 record.
RANKED SPARTANS
· 165-pound senior Caleb Fish picked up his biggest victory of the season, defeating Ohio's No. 9-ranked Garrett Thompson. With the top-10 win, Fish jumped up three spots in the latest Intermat rankings to No. 11.
· Along with Fish, five other Spartans are ranked in the recent Intermat rankings. 125-pound senior Tristan Lujan (No. 32), 141-pound redshirt junior Jordan Hamdan (No. 33), 157-pound senior Chase Saldate (No. 22), Malczewski (No. 23), and 197-pound redshirt freshman Kael Wisler (No. 31)
· Following their pair of weekend victories over American and Ohio and starting the season, 7-0, the Spartans are receiving votes in the latest NWCA coaches' poll for the second time this season.
DUALING PERFECTION
Four Spartans have a perfect dual record while competing in at least four duals. Fish and Hamdan each competed in all seven duals going 7-0. Saldate and Terrill are a perfect, 6-0, in dual matches.
KNOW THE FOE: MICHIGAN
· Michigan enters the dual meet with a 2-1 overall record. The Wolverines last wrestled on Jan. 4 against No. 15 South Dakota State in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, dropping 22-17.
· Michigan has a line-up featuring nine ranked wrestlers with six cracking the top-10: No. 3-ranked 125-pounder Michael DeAugustino, No. 26-ranked 141-pounder Sergio Lemley, No. 8-ranked 149-pounder Austin Gomez, No. 9-ranked 157-pounder Will Lewan, No. 5-ranked 165-pounder Cameron Amine, No. 4-ranked 174-pounder Shane Griffith, No. 15-ranked 184-pounder Jaden Bullock, No. 29-ranked 197-pounder Bobby Striggow, and No. 4-ranked 285-pounder Lucas Davison.
· Michigan has six wrestlers who reached All-American status with four wrestlers earning multiple: DeAugustino, Gomez, Lewan (2x), Amine (3x), Griffith (3x), and Davison (2x).
· The Wolverines are led by sixth-year head coach Sean Bormet who holds a 50-14 record.
