CLEVELAND – Redshirt junior 197-pounder Kael Wisler and redshirt sophomore 149-pounder Clayton Jones concluded their trip to the 2026 NCAA Wrestling Championships on Thursday night, falling in the consolation bracket.
In the opening prelim of the 149-pound bracket, No. 32-seeded Jones led 8-5 going into the third period against Brown's Austin McBurney but was taken down twice in the third to fall by decision, 11-9. In his consolation match Jones took over two minutes of riding time into the third period but was taken down in the final seconds to drop a 4-1 decision.
At 197 pounds, No. 28-seeded Wisler was pinned by fifth-seeded Joey Novak of Wyoming in the third period of the first round. In his consolation match, Wisler held 1:23 of riding time in the third period and nearly finished a takedown near the edge of the mat in the closing seconds of the bout. Trailing 6-3, a challenge that would've given Wisler the takedown with nine seconds remaining was unsuccessful, ending his tournament.
