No. 14 Gymnastics Set to Face No. 6 Cal, No. 19 BYU, NC State at Collegiate Quad

WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah -Â No. 14 Michigan State gymnastics stays on the road to face No. 6 Cal, No. 19 BYU and NC State in its second meet of the season at the Sprouts Farmers Market Collegiate Quad on Saturday, Jan. 13 at the Maverik Center in West Valley City, Utah. The meet is set for 9 p.m. ET/7 p.m. MT and will be nationally televised on ACC Network.
The Spartans enter Saturday's meet at 1-2 (0-0 B1G) after taking third in their season opener at the Super 16 on Jan. 5 in Las Vegas. MSU earned a 196.300 to knock off then-No. 6 Michigan (195.875), while falling to No. 1 Oklahoma (197.850) and then-No. 9 Kentucky (196.775). Individually, reigning Big Ten vault champion Sage Kellerman secured the vault title with the first 10.000 of her career. The perfect score was the second of the season in the NCAA and first on vault. She is the fourth Spartan in program history to score a 10.000 on vault and fifth overall. Kellerman was named Big Ten Event Specialist of the Week on Jan. 9.
THE MATCHUP
MSU will face Cal for the first time since the 2023 NCAA Pittsburgh Regional Final on Saturday. The Spartans and Golden Bears competed against each other in both the Regional Second Round and Regional Final, where Cal took first on both days to advance to the NCAA Championships. Cal is 2-1 this season after taking second in the final session of last weekend's Super 16 with a 196.850.
BYU (0-3) also competed in last weekend's Super 16, finishing fourth in the third session with a 195.900.
The Spartans will also take on another 2023 opponent in NC State (0-1), who fell to Georgia, 196.200-194.225, on the road last weekend. Last season, the Spartans secured a 196.400-196.375 comeback victory against the Wolfpack in Raleigh in their second meet of the season on Jan. 14.
SUPER SOPHOMORES
MSU's sophomore class shined in the Spartans' season opener at the Super 16. In addition to Kellerman's 10.000 vault, Olivia Zsarmani posted the second-best MSU vault score of the night with a 9.875. Kellerman and Zsarmani also competed in the bars lineup, each scoring 9.900s, while Elle Beaufait earned the Spartans' highest floor score of the night (9.800) in the lead off spot. Nikki Smith was one of two all-arounders for MSU at the Super 16, scoring a 9.800 on vault, 9.925 on bars, 9.700 on beam and 9.750 on floor to total a 39.175 in the all-around.

MSU travels to Penn State to open the conference season in its third-straight road meet on Friday, Jan. 19 at 6 p.m. The meet will stream on B1G+.
