Spartans Continue B1G Road Trip at Wisconsin Sunday

MADISON, Wis. -Â Michigan State women's soccer (6-2-2, 1-0-1 B1G) continues its Big Ten road trip at Wisconsin (6-1-3, 1-0-1 B1G) on Sunday, Sept. 24 at 4 p.m. ET/3 p.m. CT.
The game will broadcast nationally on Big Ten Network with live stats on MSUSpartans.com.
FIRST TOUCH
The Spartans enter Sunday's match at 6-2-2 (1-0-1 B1G) after a 3-1 road win at Minnesota on Sept. 21, MSU's 100th Big Ten win in program history and first conference victory of the season. Sophomore midfielder Emerson Sargeant scored the opening goal in the 8th minute, while senior midfielders Justina Gaynor and Gabby Mueller scored second-half goals for MSU's best offensive outing since a 6-0 win over Eastern Michigan on Aug. 31 this season. Sargeant and Gaynor's goals each brought their point totals to a team-leading 9 this season. Graduate defender Raegan Cox added an assist on Sargeant's goal to notch her third point and first assist of the season against Minnesota.

Wisconsin is led by 17th-year head coach Paula Wilkins, who holds a 185-96-55 record during her time in Madison. The Badgers enter Sunday's match at 6-1-3 (1-0-1 B1G) after securing their first Big Ten win of the season in a 1-0 win against Iowa on Sept. 21. Senior midfielder/forward Aryssa Mahrt leads the Badgers in scoring (11) and goals (4) this season. Wisconsin also returns 2022 Second-Team All-American and Big Ten Midfielder of the Year Emma Jaskaniec, who leads the Badgers in assists in 2023 with four. Wisconsin goalkeeper Erin McKinney has played every minute in goal for the Badgers this season, posting a .600 goals-against average that ranks fourth in the league.
STORY OF THE SERIES
Sunday's match will be the 38th all-time between the Spartans and Badgers. Wisconsin holds a 31-4-2 edge in the series, including a 17-1-0 record in Madison. The Spartans last topped the Badgers on Oct. 19, 2007, in a 2-1 win in East Lansing. MSU has since lost 12 straight contests to Wisconsin. The Spartans' only road win against the Badgers came in a 1-0 overtime victory on Sept. 26, 1999. Sunday's match will mark the first between the two squads in two years. MSU and Wisconsin last met on Sept. 23, 2021, in what was a 1-0 win for the Badgers in Madison.
