
Field Hockey Falls to New Hampshire

DURHAM, N.H.- Michigan State field hockey fell to the University of New Hampshire, 4-0, at Memorial Field Sunday afternoon.
UNH (2-0) opened the scoring 12 minutes into the first quarter when Lindsay Lee and Tasmin Cookman located Tamera Cookman for the first goal of the day. Halfway through the second quarter, Wildcat Nicole Poulakis found the cage for the first time this season giving the home team a 2-0 lead going into half.
The Spartans (1-1) outshot the Wildcats 13-12 after 30 minutes of play. Eight different Spartans recorded shot attempts in the first and half Lulu Fulton, Celina Riccardo, and Emma O'Neill each registered multiple attempts. Riccardo led the pack with four shots but couldn't get past the goalie Jemma Woods.
UNH doubled its lead with goals from Tasmin Cookman and Abigail Johnson in the first five minutes of the second half giving the Wildcats four different goal scorers on the day. Starting in goal for UNH was Woods, and she stopped all six shots faced to advance to 2-0 on the year.
Cecily Charles and Lyra Gavino split time in goal. Charles made four stops and falls to 1-1 on the season. 11 different players recorded shot attempts with Riccardo leading the charge with eight. The Spartans had a 13-5 advantage in corners but ultimately couldn't convert them into goals.
Michigan State will look to rebound as it takes on Kent State this Friday, Sep. 1 at 3 p.m.
