Spartans Celebrate Seniors in Pre-Dual Ceremony on Friday
EAST LANSING, Mich. – No. 24 Michigan State wrestling remains in East Lansing for its final home dual of the 2022-23 season on Friday night, as the Spartans welcome the No. 22 Indiana Hoosiers to the Banks of the Red Cedar for a 6:30 p.m. first whistle inside Jenison Field House.
In addition to MSU's Big Ten dual finale, the match will serve as Michigan State's Senior Night celebration. The Green & White will honor wrestlers Cameron Caffey, Skyler Crespo, Rayvon Foley, Benny Gomez, Miles Hoey, Cameron Monzadeh, Peyton Omania and Ryan Vasbinder, as well as student manager Maddie Coon before the dual.
HEAD COACH ROGER CHANDLER SAID…
"We have a great group of seniors who have represented this program at the highest of levels, and in the best possible way that you could ever expect as a coach. It is kind of a bittersweet moment for me. You want to see your guys have success and graduate, and all of these guys are a reflection of all the hard work that they have put in. So, it will be an emotional night, but at the same time it's the kind of night that you have to be sure and enjoy along the way. As far as Indiana goes, they are a much-improved team than what we have seen in the past. There is no doubt that we are going to have to bring our absolute best to be in this dual. This should be a fun and exciting dual for the fans, and I expect all of our guys to put their best foot forward."
LAST TIME OUT
Last week, Michigan State dropped a narrow 17-16 result to the No. 21 Illinois Fighting Illini at home in East Lansing. MSU was led by a 12-4 major decision at 165 pounds from Caleb Fish over No. 20 Danny Bruanagel, as well as a nationally-acclaimed 6-4 decision from Cameron Caffey over then-No. 10 Zac Braunagel at 197 pounds. Caffey's nationally-ranked victory landed him a spot on Big Ten Network's Big Three plays of the day, in addition to social media posts from Big Ten Network, B1G Wrestling and NCAA Wrestling. The Carbondale, Illinois, native trailed 3-2 in his match with less than 30 seconds remaining and tallied two takedowns separated by less than 10 seconds to publish the win.
