Price Leads Spartan Sweep at Lansing Invitational

LANSING, Mich. - Led by Madison Price's first-place finish, Michigan State women's cross country swept the Lansing Invitational Friday afternoon at Grand Woods Park. The Spartans placed seven runners in the top ten and scored a perfect 15 points for the victory.Â
Price crossed the finish line in a 5k time of 18:38 for the Spartans, while Michigan State took the next five spots for a 1-6 sweep. Elizabeth Dalrymple (18:41), Annika Linzmeier (18:51), Julia Bajt (18:53) and Avery McLean (18:55) followed with sub-19-minute performances. Tess Piper (19:01) finished in sixth to complete the sweep. Kaya Kuokkanen also turned in a top-10 showing for the Spartans, finishing ninth in 19:26.Â
Price, Bajt, McLean and Piper all recorded personal bests during the race. The Spartans finished first out of 10 teams, finishing 45 points ahead of second place.Â
"We're happy with the fight and teamwork from today," said Michigan State Director of Cross Country/Track & Field Lisa Breznau. "Everyone has been committed to the work and today was evidence of that."Â
Michigan State is back in action on Friday, Oct. 14 at the Nuttycombe Invitational. Races will take place at Wisconsin's Thomas Zimmer Championship Cross Country Course beginning at 11 a.m. CT.Â
