EAST LANSING, Mich. – Michigan State closes out the regular season this weekend with a road trip. The Spartans will first take on rival Michigan on Friday at 5 p.m. in Ann Arbor. The next day, (Feb. 1), both the men and women will travel to South Bend, Ind. to compete in a quad meet against host Notre Dame, Ball State and Indiana State starting at noon.
"Michigan, they're fantastic. Notre Dame, they've got a great team. Both teams are really good," said head coach Matt Gianiodis. "Indiana State and Ball State, both that we are competing against on Saturday, are both well coached. It'll be a good test for our athletes, especially since this is the last dress rehearsal before Big Tens. It's time to make it work, make it count because after that you get one shot and it's over."
The Spartans finished their final home meet last Friday with a win over Cleveland State. Putting them ahead was the wins for both the men and women in the 400-medley relay and 200 freestyle relay, which have been strong spots for the Spartans all season.
The 400 medley relay was won by Charlie Ryan, Jonathan Lee, Michael Schwers and Aidan Farley on the men's side, as for the women, Sam Villani, Erin Szara, Kasey Venn and Allie Heineman took the victory.
For the men's 200 freestyle relay, the win was captured by Kevin Mills, Farley, Schwers and Payton Woods. Chloe Reed, Kennedy Truex, Abbey Neveling and Heineman claimed the win for the Spartan women.
For the fourth time this season, Amanda Ling swept the meet on the diving boards. Against Cleveland State she won the 1-meter (268.12) and the 3-meter (295.65).
