The sophomore set the men's discus throw record with a mark of 61.22 meters (200-10) to take the win.
COLUMBUS, Ohio – Michigan State track & field was led by a new school-record in the men's discus throw from sophomore Jerimiah Evans to close out the regular season at the Jesse Owens Classic on Saturday.
"This meet gave us the opportunity to know we're right on track to be where we need to be at Big Tens," MSU sprints coach Yolanda Johnson said. "Jeremiah was a great highlight for us today and seeing him battle through the adversity he's gone through and come out the other side was great to see. We certainly have some spots we can work on, but it's a learning curve and we know what we need to do to go back and make the corrections needed. As a group, as a whole, that's our goal."
Field Events:
Evans set the new school-record by posting a mark of 61.22 meters (200-10) to take the win and break the previous record of 60.99 meters (199-0) set by Antonio James in 2015. The mark is currently tied for fifth in the country this season. Freshman Dan Stone came up just short of a new lifetime best in the men's open discus throw competition, taking second-place with a mark of 48.37 meters (158-8).
