
Wrestling Wraps Up Big Ten Dual Season

EAST LANSING, Mich. --Â Michigan State wraps up its best season in Big Ten dual meet action since 2004 this weekend with a pair of duals against ranked opponents. The Spartans will first travel to University Park, Pa. on Friday, February 15 to face No. 1-ranked and undefeated Penn State (11-0, 7-0) at 7:00 p.m. ET. Against common opponents, Penn State is 5-0 with wins over Kent State (52-3), Northwestern (33-8), Indiana (35-9), Michigan (25-11), and Ohio State (28-9). MSU's Big Ten dual schedule concludes on Sunday, February 17 with a 1:00 p.m. ET dual against No. 20-ranked Purdue (6-8, 2-5). Against common opponents, Purdue is 4-2 with wins over Bloomsburg (35-5), West Virginia (23-20), Maryland (28-10), and Indiana (18-11). Purdue's two common opponent losses came against Michigan (23-9) and Penn State (30-10). Purdue will wrestle against No. 6-ranked Ohio State prior to Sunday's dual.

ABOUT PENN STATE
With an unblemished 11-0 record this season, Penn State's narrowest margin of victory is a 24-13 win over Wisconsin on Jan. 13. The Nittany Lions boast a lineup that features nine ranked wrestlers, seven of which rank in the top three of their weight class by InterMat, and two of which come in just outside the top 10 at No. 11. Four of Penn State's nine ranked wrestlers sit atop their weight class at No. 1 and two wrestlers are ranked No. 2 in their class. The string of wrestlers from 157 to 197 pounds is a combined 92-0 on the season and the most losses by a ranked wrestler is two (Roman Bravo-Young and Brady Berge). Devin Schnupp is the lone unranked wrestler for Penn State with a 6-12 record at 125 pounds. Overall, Penn State wrestlers are 88-22 in duals this season with 23 wins by fall, nine wins by tech fall, and 28 major decisions. 197-pounder Bo Nickal leads the team in wins by fall with 13, and has won 55 straight bouts dating back to the 2016-17 NCAA Championships. Both Nickal and Jason Nolf have eclipsed the 100 career wins mark with 109 and 106 respectively. Nolf is Penn State's career leader in falls with 56.
ABOUT PURDUE
Purdue will wrestle against No. 6-ranked Ohio State prior to Sunday's dual. The Boilermakers have four ranked wrestlers in the projected lineup on Sunday, each of which appears in the top 15 of their respective weight class. 174-pounder Dylan Lydy and 197-pounder Christian Brunner are each ranked No. 11 in their class while 157-pounder Griffin Parriott is No. 13, and 133-pounder Ben Thornton is No. 15. 125-pounder Devin Schroder and 184-pounder Max Lyon are on the cusp of being ranked, with strong performances this season. Schroder is 2-6 against ranked opponents and will face No. 7 Rayvon Foley on Sunday. Lyon is 0-2 against ranked wrestlers and will face-off with No. 15 Cameron Caffey. Lydy has the best record on the team against ranked wrestlers at 4-4 and will face Drew Hughes, who is ranked No. 19 by FloWrestling. Purdue wrestlers are 29-41 in Big Ten duals and 63-77 in overall duals while maintaining a 218-181 season team record.
