Field Hockey Falls at No. 2 Maryland

East Lansing, Mich. - Michigan State field hockey fell to No. 2 Maryland, 5-1, Friday afternoon at the FH and Lax Field in College Park, Md.
Sophomore goalkeeper Jade Arundell paced the Spartans with nine saves, including six in the first half. Sophomore forward Aisha Osinga scored MSU's lone goal in the third period. The Spartans finished with five shots to 27 for the Terrapins. Maryland added eight penalty corners, five in the first half, while MSU tallied one. Freshman Nienke Bloemsaat added her seventh defensive save of the season in the second period for MSU.
Freshman Celina Riccardo recorded two shots for the Green and White in the first half and junior Lia Sinisi added two shots in the second half for the Spartans.
No. 2-ranked Maryland got on the board first at the 6th minute, with a goal from Madison Maguire off a penalty corner, assisted by Bibi Donraadt.
The Terrapins pushed the lead to 2-0 just before halftime when Emma DeBerdine scored off a rebound inside the circle.
Maryland went up 4-0 with goals from Mayv Clune and Maguire's second goal of the day at the 32nd and 35th minute.
MSU got on the board just under a minute later, when Osinga added her sixth goal of the season off a penalty corner, with an assist from senior Kelsey Keener.
Maguire added her third goal of the day at the 52nd minute to give the Terrapins a 5-1 lead.
Michigan State returns to action this Sunday, Oct. 27 when they take on Central Michigan at 2 p.m. at Ralph Young Field.
