Four Spartans Begin Play in Qualifying Singles at ITA Midwest Regionals

Zdrubecka, Mukherjee, Timotin and Lewis will begin play for the Spartans on Thursday.
EAST LANSING, Mich. – Michigan State women's tennis begins play tomorrow at the ITA Midwest Regional Championships. This year, Michigan State will be hosting the six-day tournament at the MSU Indoor Tennis Facility from Thursday, Oct. 16 to Tuesday, Oct. 22.
The Spartans begin qualifying singles on Thursday, with the first round beginning at 9 a.m., followed by the second round to close out the first day of the tournament.
Freshmen Dagmar Zdrubecka and Tia Mukherjee, sophomore Jennifer Timotin and junior Mary Lewis will all compete in qualifying singles on Thursday.
In the first round, No. 7-seed Zdrubecka will take on Fernanda Naves of Northern Illinois, while No. 5-seed Lewis faces Bowling Green's Ioanna Tsodari.
Timotin will match up with Toledo's Eilen Carney and Mukherjee will face Notre Dame's Maeve Koscielski.
Qualifying singles will conclude on Friday, Oct. 18 at 9 a.m., with eight players qualifying for the main draw. Also on Friday, main draw doubles will begin with the first round at 2 p.m., and the second round following.
