No. 3 Michigan State has scored 11 goals in its last three games.
EAST LANSING, Mich. - After a brief one-game road test, the No. 3 Michigan State men's soccer team returns home to the friendly confines of DeMartin Stadium on Monday, Sept. 10 against in-state rival Oakland at 7 p.m.
"Oakland is solid; they have a little more going forward in the attack. Eric Pogue has done a great job at Oakland. It will be tough home game for us. It is always a little different when it is an in-state rivalry. It will be a fun game, and a tough battle," MSU head coach Damon Rensing said.
The Spartans improved to 4-0-1 after a dominating 3-0 win over Bowling Green on Friday night. Michigan State was led by a senior attack against the Falcons with seniors DeJuan Jones and Ryan Sierakowski providing the offense. Jones twice and Sierakowski started the action with the first goal of the game. Senior Robbie Cart also had two assists. The Michigan State defense was also solid all game, as senior goalkeeper Jimmy Hague earned his third shutout of the season.
Overall, MSU has scored 11 goals in its last three games.
Oakland suffered its first loss of the season, 4-1, against Illinois-Chicago on Friday. The Flames took the early lead in the second minute to pace UIC. The Grizzlies are now 3-1-1 this season with wins against Marshall, DePaul and Loyola Chicago.
Michigan State trails the all-time series with Oakland 12-21-3. The last time the teams met was in 2016 when the Spartans defeated the Grizzlies, 1-0, in Rochester. Michigan State won three-straight meetings.
