
Burnham and Geer Earn WGCA All-America Honors

EAST LANSING - Michigan State senior Sarah Burnham and sophomore Allyson Geer were both named to the Women's Golf Coaches Association All-America teams, it was announced by the organization on Wednesday evening. Burnham was voted to the WGCA All-America second team, while Geer earned honorable mention accolades. It's the first time in program history the Spartans have had two WGCA All-Americans in the same season.
Burnham is the second three-time WGCA All-America selection in program history, joining Caroline Powers, who earned honorable mention accolades from 2011-13. Prior to Burnham, the last Spartan to earn second team All-America honors was Laura Kueny in 2010.
Burnham was named the Big Ten Player of the Year for the second straight year in 2018, also earning first-team All-Big Ten accolades. She helped lead the Spartans to their second straight league title while taking second place individually for the second straight year.
The native of Maple Grove, Minn., became the first Spartan two win the Mary Fossum Award, which goes to the Big Ten player with the lowest stroke average to par (-1.21). She ended her career as the school's all-time leader in career average at 72.92 and owns three of the top-five season averages in program history, including the school record 70.68 she set this year.
Burnham had six top five finishes and placed in the top 10 in 10 of the Spartans' 11 tournaments. She captured her third career tournament title by winning the Mary Fossum Invitational in September with a 6-under-par 210.
Burnham was selected to the CoSIDA Academic All-District team just last week.
Geer was a first-team All-Big Ten selection for the second straight year in 2017-18. She posted the second-lowest single season scoring average in school history at 71.61, while recording six top-10 finishes, including four in the top-5.
Geer, who hails from Brighton, was named Big Ten Golfer of the Week twice, both after taking second place in back-to-back tournaments â€" the Allstate Sugar Bowl (3-under-par 213) and the Clemson Invitational (3-under-par 213). She was also the runner-up at the Mary Fossum Invitational.
Geer did her part to help the Spartans win their second straight Big Ten title by placing fourth at the conference championships for the second straight year.
