EAST LANSING, Mich. – The Michigan State women's swimming and diving team will host the Scarlet Knights on Friday, Oct. 26. The meet will begin at 5 p.m. in the IM West Indoor Pool.
"I think this is the first time, I haven't looked back, but I think this actually the first time our two teams have competed against each other in a dual meet. Their coach is actually from the area, Jon Maccoll," head coach Matt Gianiodis said. "They have a really good diving program, good swimmers so I'm looking forward to hosting them here."
The Spartans have a 0-2 record to start the 2018-19 season with tough battles against Big Ten opponents, Illinois and Iowa. Strong leadership has shown all over this team, from the seniors to the freshman.
Senior Ellie Roche has already record two first-place and two second-place finishes this year. Her best time was 1:04.24 in the 100 breaststroke in the meet against Iowa.
In her first season with the Spartans, freshman Olivia Chick has claimed two second-place finishes, both in the meet against Illinois. She clocked a time of 1:53.86 in the 200 freestyle and a time of 53.15 in the 100 freestyle.
Michigan State divers sophomore Amanda Ling and senior Morgan Wellenzohn have dominated the boards so far this season. Both have placed within the top three their past two meets.Â
"It'll be nice to be back at home and just continue to try and improve off of what we've been doing in all the other weeks," Gianiodis said.
Results from the meet can be found at msuspartans.com at the conclusion of the meet.
