
The Spartans Conclude Regular Season with Three-Match Weekend

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State men's tennis team will conclude the regular season with a three-match weekend, taking on two Big Ten opponents and rounding out the season at UIC. Michigan State will travel to Nebraska on Friday, April 21 for a 4 p.m. match at the Sid and Hazel Dillon Tennis Center. MSU will then have a doubleheader on Sunday, April 23 traveling to Iowa for a 12 p.m. match followed up with a 7 p.m. match against the University of Illinois at Chicago.
Michigan State is 10-15 on the regular season and in search of its first conference victory with a mark of 0-9. Nebraska will enter the contest with an overall record of 4-17 and they also hold an 0-9 record in conference action. Iowa is currently 12-13 on the year and 1-8 in conference action but will have one more match against Michigan before facing the Spartans. For the final match of the weekend, UIC has an overall record of 6-11 but will have a match against Detroit Mercy before facing the Spartans.
MSU is coming off of a tough 7-0 loss to #28 Illinois this past Sunday, April 16. Michigan State has played eight ranked opponents this season, seven of which are in the Big Ten Conference and the last five matches for the Spartans have been against ranked opponents.
With the season coming to an end, Michigan State will turn its attention to the Big Ten Tournament. Purdue will host the 2017 Big Ten Men's Tennis Tournament at the school's Schwartz Tennis Center. Currently, seven Big Ten programs are featured in the Oracle/ITA Division I Men's Collegiate Tennis Rankings, including three in the Top 25 including No. 2 Ohio State, No. 15 Michigan and No. 21 Northwestern. The schedule will be determined after all teams have finished regular season conference play but the tournament will stretch from April 27-30.
