
Women's Tennis Defeats UNC-Wilmington, 5-2

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State women's tennis team got back on track and stopped its two-match skid with a 5-1 win at UNC-Wilmington on Friday afternoon. The Spartans improve to 10-3 on the season, while UNCW falls to 5-4.
"We overcame adversity with the elements and had positive energy and attitude throughout the match," said head coach Kim Bruno. "We are poised and ready as we move into Big Ten play next week."
MSU got the day started off right by taking the doubles point with a pair of 6-2 victories from the pairs of Emily Metcalf and Davina Nguyen, and Samantha Memije and Athena Trouillot. Allie Baer and Erin Faulkner were up 4-3 in their match when the Spartans won the doubles point. Memije and Trouillot earned their team-high 11th doubles win of the season.
Senior Erin Faulkner won her match at second singles in straight sets, 6-1, 6-4. Emily Metcalf is now 10-2 on the season after winning 6-0, 6-3 on the third singles court. Athena Trouillot picked up her 14th win of the season in straight sets, 6-3, 6-0 and Davina Nguyen improved to 13-7 with a win at fourth singles. After taking the first set 6-0, Nguyen dropped the second set, but fought back to earn the win with a 6-2 victory in the deciding set.
Michigan State will continue its seven-match road trip as they begin Big Ten play against Michigan. MSU will travel to Ann Arbor on Saturday, March 18, with the match set to begin at 2 p.m.
