SOUTH BEND, Ind.-The Michigan State women's tennis team dropped its Saturday morning match vs. No. 41 Notre Dame, 6-0, in South Bend. The Spartans drop to 9-2 on the season, while the Irish improve to 7-1.
"I have to give a lot of credit to Notre Dame for how they competed and played today," said head coach Kim Bruno. "It takes a good team to beat us and they were that team today. We need to learn how to be that team for two good sets moving forward and sustain a high level throughout the match to take our game to the next level. I have no doubt that we will respond in a positive manner and be ready for our matches over spring break."
The Spartans dropped the doubles point for just the second time this season and fell behind 1-0 heading into singles play. In a matchup of ranked opponents on third singles, Emily Metcalf dropped her first match of the season to ND's Allison Miller and is now 9-1 on the season.
Erin Faulkner fell to Monica Robinson at first singles. Davina Nguyen played a close first set with Zoe Spence at fourth singles before falling 7-5. Lexi Baylis dropped her match at fifth singles and Athena Trouillot lost her first match in the last eight contests at sixth singles.
Michigan State will continue its seven-match road trip, as they travel to North Carolina State on March 8, with the match set to begin at 1 p.m. MSU will then face UNC-Wilmington on March 10, with the match set to begin at 1 p.m.
