Spartans Can't Overcome No. 4 Buckeyes at Home

EAST LANSING, Mich. â€" The MSU men's tennis team (10-10, 0-3) was unable to overcome No. 4 Ohio State (17-2, 2-0) on Friday night at the MSU Indoor Tennis Facility as the Buckeyes took a 4-0 win in East Lansing.
The Spartans kept their same doubles duos for the third week in a row, with Mac Roy and Alexander Kim at No. 1, Michael Dube and Colin Harvey at No. 2 and Jasper Koenen and Billy Shisler at the No. 3 spot.
The Buckeyes took the doubles point with a pair of 6-1 wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. Koenen and Shisler's match went unfinished at No. 3.
"I think the biggest thing is to try to find small victories in the loss," MSU head coach Gene Orlando said. "It's not about winning and losing, obviously we all want to win, but at the end of the day we ask what we can learn from it and look for what we did well."
The Spartans battled in singles play, but the Buckeyes scored three quick wins at No. 1, No. 4 and No. 6 singles to clinch the match, 4-0.
"We have to try to learn from how they competed," Orlando said. "They didn't give us a single point, we had to earn everything. They've been a good team for a while and we're trying to get to that level. We're a young team looking to grow and trying to get better every day."
The Spartans return to action next weekend with two noon matches against Purdue on Saturday and Indiana on Sunday.
