Spartans in 16th After Opening Round of the Landfall Tradition

WILMINGTON, N.C. - The Michigan State women's golf team began play in the Landfall Tradition on Friday in Wilmington, North Carolina. The Spartans shot a 20-over par 308 at the par-72, 6,166-yard Country Club of Landfall and are in 16th place in the tournament, which features 12 teams currently in the Golfweek Top 50.
Defending tournament champ Sarah Burnham is tied for fifth place with a 1-under par 71. Burnham birdied two holes on the back nine to start the day and then finished 1-over on the front.
Carolyn Markley shot a 6-over par 78 and is tied for 69th place. She had a team-high three birdies on the day.
Junior Katie Sharp shot a 7-over par 79 in her return to the lineup. Sharp rebounded from a 5-over par on holes 10-18 to shoot 2-over on the front nine to finish the day.
Freshman Catherine McEvoy is playing in her first-career tournament and shot an 8-over par 80. McEvoy parred the back nine holes to start the day.
Fellow rookie Paz Marfa Sans finished with a 9-over par 81.
Oklahoma leads the tournament at 4-under par (284). OU's Hannah Wood is atop the individual leaderboard at 3-under par.
