
ITA Midwest Regional Update

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The ITA Midwest Regional, hosted by Michigan State has completed two days of play. The tournament will continue until Tuesday, Oct. 25 with play taking place at the MSU Indoor Tennis Facility.
The Spartans have had success in the early-going of the tournament, led by junior Aslina Chua, who is 5-0 thus far. Chua has tallied a 3-0 record in singles play and is 2-0 with her partner Lexi Baylis in the doubles draw.
Chua went 3-0 in qualifying singles and now plays Illinois State's Marcia Tese-Apisah in the main draw on Saturday at 1 p.m. To get there, she defeated Eastern Illinois Stella Cliffe, 7-6 (5), 3-6, 7-5. She went on defeat Detroit Mercy's Nynke Van Der Goot in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1 and then took down Eastern Michigan's Marie Mayerova.
Erin Faulkner and Davina Nguyen lead off the Spartans in the main draw on Saturday, with Faulkner taking on Northwestern's Alex Chatt and Nguyen squaring off with Depaul's Ana Vladutu. Also in the main draw, Athena Trouillot will face Madie Ballion from Illiinois and Lexi Baylis matches up with Marina Cozack from Depaul.
In doubles play on Friday, Baylis and Chua led the way, starting with an 8-5 win over the Boone/Hilton pair from Illinois. The duo then advanced to the round of 16 by defeating Akron's Maksimava/Knezvich, 8-4. They will face the team of Fahey/Najarian from Michigan for a chance to play in the quarterfinals.
Erin Faulkner teamed up with Nguyen and Athena Trouillot was paired with Memije. Both groups went 1-1 in doubles play on Friday.
