MSU Men's Tennis Takes Down Texas Arlington, 6-1

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. â€" The MSU Men's Tennis team improved to 3-1 on the season with a 6-1 victory over Texas Arlington in Fayetteville, Arkansas on Saturday.
"It was a solid win, that's for sure," MSU head coach Gene Orlando said. "We had to earn it and all of our guys played hard. It was definitely the best that we've played all year, and we needed that to win."
The Spartans started their weekend by capturing the doubles point against the Mavericks. At No. 1 doubles, Michael Dube and Mac Roy won 6-2 and the No. 2 doubles team of Jasper Koenen and Billy Shisler won their flight, 6-3, to give the Spartans the doubles point.
In singles play, Roy was victorious at No. 1 singles with a 6-1, 6-3 win while Dube made quick work of his opponent at No. 2 singles, 6-1, 6-1. Koenen won his match at No. 3 singles, 6-2, 7-5, while Billy Shisler battled back to win the No. 4 singles spot 1-6, 6-3, 6-4. Alex Kim rounded out the day with a hard-fought 4-6, 7-6(4), 10-4 win at No. 6 singles, giving the Spartans the 6-1 decision.
"The motto all week has been just playing with heart and playing for one another," Orlando said. "This is the first time all year that we've played with this kind of emotion and passion and it really paid off."
With two wins at home on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, the Spartans' win streak extends to three matches with the win on Saturday.
The Spartans (3-1, 0-0) close out the weekend against Arkansas at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
"The win definitely gives us confidence going in (to Sunday's match)," Orlando said. "We saw Arkansas beat the same team, 6-1, that we beat so it's a great opportunity for us to get a quality win."
