BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) - Michigan State women's basketball had its three game winning streak stopped by Indiana in Bloomington at Assembly Hall on Wednesday, 81-65. Tyra Buss scored 24 points, Amanda Cahill and Karlee McBride added 17 each and Indiana defeated No. 18 Michigan State.
The trio combined for the first 13 points of the game as the Hoosiers shot 52 percent and converted 14 Michigan State turnovers to 27 points in the first half for a 39-25 lead. McBride had 13 points.
Indiana (10-7, 2-3 Big Ten) then shot 61.5 percent and made 25 of 32 free throws in the second half to hand the Spartans (12-4, 3-2) their worst loss of the season.
Jasmine Hines had 24 points and Aerial Powers 14 for Michigan State, which finished with 24 turnovers that turned into 41 points. The Spartans shot 36.5 percent (23 of 63), going 4 of 22 behind the arc.
Hines' 24 was a career high, her previous high was 21 points against Oakland on Dec. 13. She now has two two-point games for her career. Powers has scored in double figures in every game in which she has played this season.
"Jasmine was a real bright spot today. She did a really good job posting and being aggressive, looking to score the ball against that zone. She is a handful to deal with, and I think we did a good job of getting her the ball. We just needed a few other pieces around her tonight," head coach Suzy Merchant said.
Buss has scored in double figures 21-straight games.
Michigan State returns to the Breslin Center to take on Iowa on Saturday, Jan. 16 at 4:30 p.m. on 4H Day. The game will be televised on the Big Ten Network. This is the first of two-straight games in East Lansing for the Spartans.
