WACO, Texas - Senior Harry Jadun and junior John Patrick Mullane are gearing up for the 2015 NCAA Division I Men's Tennis Doubles Championship at Baylor.
"It's an honor to be named among the top 32 doubles teams in the nation," head coach Gene Orlando said. "Still, we're ready to show them how good we are."
Jadun and Mullane, ranked No. 18 in the nation in the last ITA Rankings, have a first round match up with No. 3 seed Luca Corinteli and Ryan Shane of Virginia on Thursday. Corinteli and Shane are coming off a national championship win, as the Cavaliers defeated No. 1 Oklahoma on Tuesday for the title.
"It's a great opportunity to play against the best in the country," Mullane said. "We came to represent the Spartans."
With a 16-5 record, including a 7-1 mark in Big Ten play and a four-match winning streak, Jadun and Mullane have a lot of momentum. It doesn't hurt that the pair is 7-3 against ranked opponents either.
Jadun isn't putting a lot of stock in the rankings or seeds, though.
"It doesn't matter what teams are ranked," Jadun said. "You just have to be the best team on the court."
Corinteli and Shane bring a 33-5 record into the match, and Shane will be participating in the singles tournament as the No. 8 seed.
"This is what we have practiced for," Jadun said. "We need to play our game. Nobody is an easy out, but we can beat anyone when we play our game."
